Cardiff, the capital of Wales, is located roughly 200 km west of London. Being the largest city in Wales, its metropolitan area has a population of roughly 500,000. Much of the city's growth in the 19th century was due to it being a major port for coal transport from the mines of South Wales. The University is ideally located right by the city centre. Cardiff Bay, a waterfront tourist attraction with entertainment venues, restaurants, a concert hall and a marina is a short bus, train or boat ride away. The School of Mathematics is located on Senghennydd Road, Cardiff, CF24 4AG.
